Degree: Ph.D. in Physics from Michigan State University
Research: Nuclear astrophysics and cosmochemistry
Joined LLNL: September 2018
Research at LLNL: Wei investigates weak r-process nucleosynthesis through an integrated approach that combines radioactive beam experiments, microanalytical cosmochemistry measurements, and extended nucleosynthesis network calculations.
Bio: Wei Jia Ong received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2018 working with Hendrik Schatz on radioactive beam experiments to probe the nuclear processes that occur in accreted neutron star crusts. After completing her Ph.D., she worked in the Physics division at Argonne National Laboratory in Melina Avila’s group, performing nuclear physics experiments using the Multi-Sampling Ionization Chamber (MUSIC). Wei joined LLNL in 2018 as a Lawrence Fellow.
