Faculty Mini-Sabbatical Program

LLNL

Call for Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 is now open
Deadline: June 13, 2025

Our Faculty Mini-Sabbatical Program is designed to bring top academic talent from colleges and universities across the world to the Laboratory for one- to three-month visits to exchange knowledge and build partnerships. This program provides an excellent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and the development of new collaborations. Please note that it is not intended to provide direct support for specific research activities.  Successful faculty applicants will be hired into the Laboratory’s existing Faculty Employee (FS) category through their host organization and can receive salary of $14,500/month (this includes 2k to help offset housing costs). Travel costs, which include 1 RT airfare or mileage in accordance with LLNL travel policy, are covered by the hosting organization. The faculty member is expected to be onsite during their sabbatical.

There are two application periods throughout the year; one for summer and one for fall through spring. The Summer call opens in early-November and the Fall/Spring opens in late-April. Selected faculty for this call will begin sabbatical between October 2025 to April 2026.

You must be a continuing faculty member at an accredited university to apply to the Faculty Mini-Sabbatical Program. Here’s how to apply:

1. Faculty must first be sponsored by a staff scientist. Staff scientists must complete a host form to sponsor the faculty member and upload it to our internal system: https://forms.office.com/g/qXEBgtC0V1

2. Faculty should apply using the “Apply Now” link below. Please submit a cover letter and your CV. The cover letter should emphasize the educational opportunity and benefits you expect from this sabbatical and clearly name your LLNL host. The application deadline is June 13, 2025.
