UNDERGRADUATE
HPC Cluster Engineer Academy: Undergraduate interns spend nine weeks learning the basics of cluster engineering and system installation under the guidance of LLNL experts and gaining direct experience with running and maintaining high-performance computing systems.
UNDERGRADUATE and GRADUATE
Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Science Internship: Undergraduate and graduate students earn practical research experience by working with mentors on projects in geoscience and atmospheric science.
Cybersecurity Summer Institute : Offers interns an opportunity to apply the skills acquired to projects in areas of national importance and opportunities to participate in Capture the Flag (CTF)-style projects and other challenges.
Center for Global Security Research Student Intern: Engages undergraduate and graduate students in practical research experience to support United States policy and decision makers in developing strategies for national and international security.
Computing Scholars Program: Computing offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain research experience and work with Laboratory science and engineering mentors through our internship program.
Data Science Summer Institute: This program offers data science advanced undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity for a 12-week summer internship working on real problems that matter to the nation.
Defense Science & Technology Internship: Opportunities for students to perform experimental, theoretical, and computational research in disciplines such as astrophysics, hydrodynamics, turbulence, plasma physics, inertial confinement physics, and radiation/particle transport.
High Energy Density Science Center internships for students interested in studying matter at extreme conditions. Whether it is the center of the sun, the cores of the giant planets or the thermonuclear fusion occurring in an ICF capsule, extreme pressures, extreme temperatures, and extreme densities.
Livermore Center for Quantum Science: Opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in projects led by LLNL scientists in areas such as quantum algorithm development, quantum sensing, noise characterization for superconducting qubits, and ion trap design and testing.
National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Student Internship Program: Opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to engage in R&D in lasers, plasma physics, electro-optics, software development, and optical, x-ray, and nuclear instrument development and testing.
Materials and Chemistry Institute (MaCI) Summer Program: students spend 10–12 weeks working in materials chemistry, synthesis, characterization, and processing; analytical chemistry; actinide science, optical materials science, electrochemistry, and physics
Engineering’s student internship program is a year-round recruiting tool for our diverse pool of top full-time talent. Summer is the high season for internships, though we host students throughout the year. Our internships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Computational Chemistry and Materials Science Summer Institute: Graduate students gain experience in the development and application of methods in computational materials science, computational chemistry, and other related areas of computational science.
The Nondestructive Characterization Institute (NCI): Faculty and students acquire and analyze data using x-ray and neutron computed tomography, ultrasonics, microwaves, eddy current, inverse problems, signal and image processing, machine learning, data science, modeling, and simulations.
Seaborg Nuclear Forensics Summer Internship Program: This eight-week summer program offers graduate students the opportunity to work directly with leading LLNL researchers on projects in the areas of nuclear forensics, nuclear chemistry, and environmental science.
