About SAGE

The SAGE (Science Accelerating Growth and Engagement) program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is designed to foster innovation, expand the STEM community, and welcome intelligent, creative, and passionate students into the daily world of scientists and engineers.

The ideal participant is strong in math and science classes and is curious about STEM opportunities—even if they have not yet decided to pursue a STEM major in college.

Goals for the camp:

  • Invite college-bound students who love learning to explore the possibilities of STEM.
  • Show that STEM careers are creative, collaborative, and come in all shapes and styles.
  • Bring together a group of about 30 students for a fun, supportive STEM experience at LLNL.

Learning outcomes for students:

  • Discover what the everyday life of scientists, engineers, and technical professionals looks like inside a national laboratory
  • Meet and learn from STEM experts at LLNL at various stages of their careers
  • Connect with other STEM-curious students and become part of the growing SAGE community

SAGE at the National Level

SAGE is a national initiative developed by the Department of Energy's national laboratories to broaden participation in STEM and inspire future innovators and scientific leaders. While LLNL hosts its own SAGE camp, the program is part of a larger network that includes other DOE national labs, each contributing to the mission of expanding access to STEM education.

SAGE is supported by the Betty and Gordon Moore Foundation and delivered in partnership with multiple Department of Energy national laboratories, including LLNL.
