Day at the Lab
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) invites high school teachers to bring their students to Day at the Lab—an educational experience that introduces students to STEM careers and the cutting-edge science and technology at a national laboratory.
Students will explore research facilities, engage with LLNL scientists and engineers, and learn how classroom concepts are applied to solve real-world challenges in energy, advanced manufacturing, and scientific discovery.
The Day at the Lab program is offered at no cost to participating schools and is held on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Experience Includes
- A visit to the LLNL Discovery Center
- Tours of the Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory and the National Ignition Facility
- A career panel lunch with LLNL scientists and engineers (lunch provided).
Is Day at the Lab Right for Your Class?
Day at the Lab is a structured educational program designed for high school juniors and seniors, or students with comparable STEM preparation, including coursework in physics or other upper-level STEM subjects.
Requesting a Visit
Because space is limited, submitting a request does not guarantee a visit. The program follows a standard itinerary and is not intended to be customized.
Program Guidelines
- Group size is limited to 30 visitors.
- One adult chaperone is required for every 14 students.
- Teachers should ensure students are prepared to engage with advanced STEM content throughout the day.
- Visitors are required to provide personal and government-issued identification information prior to the visit.
- Visitors 18 years of age or older must be U.S. citizens and present a REAL ID or valid (non-expired) U.S. passport upon arrival.
- All visitors must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Section 3112 which generally prohibits citizens of China, Russia, Iran and North Korea without dual US citizenship or legal permanent residence from accessing non-public areas of a national security facility.
