Degree: Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Research: Metallurgy and Computational Materials Science
Joined LLNL: September 2023
Research at LLNL: Malik’s work is at the intersection of computational materials science and metallurgy. He seeks to accelerate material discovery and design, particularly for extreme applications, via developing novel approaches to defect description and engineering that go beyond traditional dilute solutions and equilibrium conditions. His approach combines theoretical models, computer simulations, and machine learning, in addition to experimental collaborations that leverage advanced characterization.
Bio: Malik Wagih is a Lawrence Fellow in the Physical and Life Sciences Directorate. He earned his Ph.D. and S.M. degrees in Nuclear Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the British University in Egypt. Prior to joining LLNL, he was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
